Where Do I Start? is a newsletter of creative writing prompts and resources for any genre by Kathryn Mockler (publisher of Send My Love to Anyone, a newsletter on all things writing).

I named this newsletter Where Do I Start? because this is the question I ask myself before I begin any writing project. I feel lost all over again like it’s the first time I’m writing something.

Over the years I’ve learned this is part of the writing process for me. Writing is about feeling lost and then finding my way.

I hope these writing prompts and resources help you along your journey no matter where you’re at.

About Kathryn Mockler

Kathryn Mockler has taught creative writing for 20 years and is currently an Assistant Professor at the University of Victoria where she teaches short fiction and screenwriting.

She is the author of five books of poetry and several short films and experimental videos. She’s the publisher of Watch Your Head, an online journal devoted to climate justice and the climate crisis and Send My Love to Anyone, a newsletter on all things writing. She co-edited the print anthology Watch Your Head: Writers & Artists Respond to the Climate Crisis (Coach House Books, 2020) and her debut story collection Anecdotes is forthcoming with Book*hug in 2023.
